At Loose Ends? Think about PvP Door Missions or Zone Missions
This entry was posted on 6/12/2006 6:30 PM and is filed under Out of Character.
More than once, I've found myself wanting either a change of pace on the villains I'm fighting, my contacts are out of missions for me but I can't talk to my next batch just yet, I just want to run a few quick missions without having to travel far, or I want some way to earn some decent prestige without having to run my regular missions.
If that's the case for you, check out the door missions in the PvP zones of Bloody Bay, Siren's Call or Warburg. Warburg now offers PvE missions for heroes over 40!
Door missions in PvP zones are strictly PvE missions - you don't need to engage other players in order to complete them. There are four types offered from the contact: buffs to hero defense and attacks, and debuffs to villains and villain attacks. The villains in these missions include several Recluse villains needed in order to get gladiator badges, including Fortunatas and Mu Adepts (although you'll have to get a large team together in order to see many of those). The experience is excellent, the prestige is outstanding, and while these are hour-long timed missions, you'll probably find they take about a half hour or less to complete. Also, travel time is small - you'll just have to go to different locations around the zone, and once you're able to call the contact, you might even be able to make it from one mission to another without going over the PvP timer.
These zones also offer zone missions, which can provide some extremely useful temporary powers you'll want to have handy on your journey up through the levels.
The first is a standard patrol mission, visiting 5 spots in the area. At the completion of this mission, you receive the badge Risk Taker (and if you ran this mission early on and got Forward Observer instead, you'll get your Risk Taker badge if you run it again). In addition, you'll receive a temporary power (a toggle) which is good for 30 minutes of *uninterrupted* phase shift. If you haven't done this mission, I *highly* recommend it. My recommendation: Run this mission in Bloody Bay or Warburg - there are generally fewer heroes there than in Siren's Call, and the mission will be easier to complete. Alternately, check out the temporary powers sold in Siren's Call.
The second zone mission is exclusive to Bloody Bay and provides another temporary power. Check with the other representative standing near the one giving the door missions for instructions. Upon completion, you're awarded a temporary power which allows you to summon five Shivans. As Shivan attacks have radiation debuffs, you can see how handy these can be, especially with so many arch villains and giant monsters regenerating quickly. Best of all, to the best of my knowledge, when this temporary power is exhausted, you can do the meterorite tour again and get another one.
The third zone mission is exclusive to Warburg, and it's firing the Warburg rocket. Completion of the task gives you one of three types of nukes. Like the Shivans, these are temporary powers which can come in exceptionally handy for the odd tough AV or GM. Also like the Shivans, these powers may be used and replaced - you just have to do the tasks again. Firing the rocket 10 times earns a badge as well.
Zone missions, unlike door missions, do present a degree of risk, and do not give a great deal of experience. Don't hesitate to ask for help with them from your SG friends - that's what we're all here for.
