What To Do If You’ve Failed a Badge Mission

I’d started to write this up a while back after failing a buggy badge mission of my own in CoV.  In my research, I ran across a brief guide on the boards by Snow Globe of the Triumph server.  I had some separate thoughts down, but credit for #4 goes to Snow Globe, and a link to Snow Globe’s guide follows this post.  Thanks for sharing, Snow Globe!

I know not all of you are badge hunters; however, some mission badges (i.e., the infamous Spelunker badge for the Atlas Medallion) are required for accolades which give very useful permanent powers (some of which listed in a previous post.)

These tips only apply to missions which have failed due to a bug in the game, not legitimate mission failure.  These fixes are also *only* for the mission holder.  Members of your team will not receive the badge, even after the fix (per my e-mail from the GM).

1.         Make sure the mission’s failed due to a bug and not due to a legitimate reason not to complete the mission.  War Wall Defender is notorious for this – the mission holder will receive the badge, success or fail, after the first time they zone, but nobody else on the team will.

2.         Double check to make certain the mission actually had a badge.  The top two sites to check for this are (my personal favorite) Badge-Hunter.com (http://www.badge-hunter.com) and City Information Terminal (http://www.cityinfoterminal.com)

If #1 and #2 check out, then:

3.         DO NOT GO BACK TO YOUR CONTACT.  THE GM CANNOT FIX THE MISSION IF YOU GO BACK TO YOUR CONTACT.  [She says from sad experience.]

4.         /Petition.  In the subject line, note that you’re petitioning a mission which failed due to a bug.  Add your server name, also.  In your message, you should also include the following information:  The name of the contact who assigned the mission, the mission slot (top, middle or bottom), the mission title (the description in the mission text), and your level.  Also make a note that you haven’t gone to a contact yet.

5.         Wait.  Sometimes GM response is incredibly fast (I had one guy show up within 5 minutes) and sometimes it’s incredibly slow (4 days during the CoV opening being my record for a critical tech problem.)  If you can hang around and do something else, by all means, do so.  If not, be patient.

6.         When contacted, be prepared to repeat any or all of the information you’ve given in the petition.  And be pleasant.  Yes, it may have been a while, but there’s a lot of people out there, and a failed badge mission isn’t time-critical.   GM’s are no different than anyone else in customer service – sure, they’re there to help you, and they’re getting paid for it…but we all try harder for people who are being nice to us versus people who are being twits.
