What I9 Means To Us...

I made another trip over to test server to check to see what we'd need for the base for I9.  My previous trip was during the closed beta (which I can say now, I guess) and apparently, some pieces were missing.

As far as I am able to determine, what the base can provide in addition to an invention worktable is a vault which allows you access to some of your personal invention storage.

This is not the same as base storage; in fact, you *cannot* store invention salvage in base salvage containers.  This is a change.  However, it does give you one location for easier access of items.

A vault will cost 100K, which we can easily cover.  We also have the power and control needed to make it functional.  As mentioned before, we'll also put in an invention worktable, which runs 25K and (as far as I can tell) requires no power or control for operation.  It does, however, take a slot in the workroom.  Until our base expansion (which we're not quite halfway to, as it'll run us 3.3 million), we will have to take down one and possibly both of our tables to give us room for the vault and the invention table.  Base limitations are that you can only have two worktables in that size of workroom, and that's the largest size we can get into our base plot right now.

There is one alternative which is less than palatable, but it *is* an option.

You've all seen the one room along the Hazard Corridor of teleporters which has just one teleporter.  By moving the Faultline beacon over to the city zones (which, in fact, it really is now) and dropping one hazard zone destination, we could dismantle the teleporter in that room and turn it into a workroom.  We could put non-invention worktables and possibly another base storage unit there, and possibly the empowerment stations as well.

For roleplay and logic purposes, it would make sense to keep the back workroom as an invention workroom.  After all, who'd put a vault out in the front?  However, there is a more compelling OOC reason:  There was for a time a LOT of bugs with base storage units.  If they were moved, items were frequently lost.  As difficult as it apparently is to get some of these items, I really don't want to do that to anyone.  Therefore, where we install the vault is where it will stay.

When we're able to expand the base again, we can move the non-invention workroom to the back once more and reinstate the teleporter.  The destination we'd probably drop (just based on what people say they use most) would probably be the one to the Rikti Crash Site, unless there's other suggestions.

This isn't set in stone.  I'll try to collect opinions before I9 rolls in to have a better idea of which way to go with it all.  My personal preference and suggestion would be to drop the worktables, since the empowerment stations do much of the same work; while it's possible to move base storage units, as you may have noticed, it does tend to foul up logs and the like.  We could also then put two invention worktables in the room.  Also, it would save us from having to re-construct the teleporter --unfortunately, while you get the cash back when you sell a constructed item like a teleporter back, you don't get the salvage back that you used to make it.

I think that pretty much brings us up to date, except to note that due to a base bug, I added another reclaimation unit in the infirmary.  Apparently, if you've got one unit and more than one person who hits it simultaneously, there is an occasional kick.  A couple of us have experienced this already.  Since we had the power, control and cash to do it, and since I9 will probably mean still more of us going for trials and task forces, I thought now would be a good time to get it in there for us.

And as always, if you need enhancements or cash, please check the storage bins - they're very comfortably close to full.  If the enhancements you need aren't there and you're short of cash, please feel free to grab some to resell to help finance your upgrades -- preferably the level 50 and over SO's.  That's what your fellow SOLUSers with 50's have chunked them in for!  All we ask is that you please sell them at the appropriate store of origin for the most return.

A final note:  I freely admit, I find the invention system to be pretty confusing and probably not my cup of tea.  However, I do know many of you will probably want costume parts if not IO's, and  I absolutely want to be certain that you've got everything we can provide to make the invention system work for you and give you the most fun possible.

To that end, if there is some item we can add, or something you want us to try to get that I don't yet know about, PLEASE, let me know.  If we can get it, rest assured, we will, ASAP.

That's about all I can think of right now.  If you've got questions, comments or suggestions, please shoot them to me at @lionors.
